Advent: Horn of Salvation

December 3, 2017

You, Lord, showed favor to your land;
you restored the fortunes of Jacob.
You forgave the iniquity of your people
    and covered all their sins.
You set aside all your wrath
and turned from your fierce anger. Restore us again, God our Savior, and put away your displeasure toward us. Will you be angry with us forever?

Will you prolong your anger through all generations?

Will you not revive us again,

that your people may rejoice in you?

Show us your unfailing love, Lord,

    and grant us your salvation.

Psalm 85:1-7

He has raised up a mighty saviour for us
in the house of his servant David,

Luke 1:69

Day Three

It seemed that God would be angry with his people forever. Even though he had forgiven them for their mistakes in the past.

Their cry for ‘love and faithfulness’ was often expected of them throughout the Old Testament and here it is reversed.

But in the New Testament we see God’s new answer. Of the lineage of the Old but also completely new.
