Mind The Gap

Who we are:

We are educators passionate about correcting the notion that subject areas exist independently of one another. As teachers of Emergent Bilinguals, we have seen how language is an integral part of the whole learning experience, not just literacy classes.

We have created this website as a place to share resources, lesson plans and other tips on how to connect literacy to other subject areas in the classroom. If you’re new to Mind the Gap, here’s a description of our experiences to help you know where to start:

Cora has a B.S.E in Elementary Education and a M.Ed. in Literacy with an emphasis in Reading Intervention. If you are looking for ways to integrate literacy into elementary content areas, start with “Cora’s Posts.”

Seth has a B.S.E. in Secondary Math Education and a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction: Mathematics Pk-12. If you are looking for ways to integrate literacy into mathematics, start with “Seth’s Posts.”

What We Post

Ways to think about mathematics, science, and literacy as integrated parts of the learning experience instead of separate subject areas will be posted on a routine basis.

A list of books to bring literacy to the mathematics classroom will be updated as necessary.

Resources for intervention in mathematics and literacy will be posted periodically.
